AJ Krow Owner OPW Solutions Commercial Services OKSBE Member Series Oklahoma Small Business Exchange

Headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with additional warehouses in Norman, Oklahoma, and Springdale, Arkansas, OPW Solutions is a full-service facilities maintenance partner serving commercial properties throughout the region.

What does your business do and who do you serve?

We're a full-service facilities maintenance partner for commercial properties. We handle everything on the outside of a property including landscaping and irrigation, snow and ice control, concrete/fence repair, asphalt sealcoating and parking lot services. We serve everyone from municipalities and government properties to large format retail, warehouses and other commercial properties.

What inspired you to start your business?

I bought a small snow removal and pressure washing business in 2023 after a long search to leave the corporate world. My search began in March 2020 when I lost what I thought was my dream job when Covid hit.

What moment made you feel especially proud or validated as a business owner?

The most proud I always am about the business is always when we get a contract renewal because it's the best proof that we deliver on our promise! One other piece that's not necessarily a moment is the opportunities we've been able to create for our team and help them start an actual career path instead of just a job.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a business owner so far?

Qualifying for our bond program - getting that up and running was brutal.

What makes your business different from others in your industry?

Our ability to execute quickly. We got a call on a Friday last summer to see if we could take 6 locations, we gave our quote that day and had all 6 serviced Monday morning. We grew that to 33 locations and haven't missed a service the entire time we've worked them.

What’s one piece of advice you wish every business owner knew?

Increase your budget for key hires and you'll go further, faster!

Why is being an Oklahoma-based business important to you?

My wife was born and raised in Tulsa and I saw how special the community is. It always felt like home. My incredible leadership team are all Oklahoma natives which is important to us to maintain a real, local identity.

How have relationships with other Oklahoma businesses helped you grow?

We are lucky to serve a lot of local Oklahoma businesses and festivals and they always appreciate we're a truly local company, not a group of people sitting in an office in a different state.

What trends or changes should business owners be paying attention to in your industry?

If you don't have a great relationship with a local bank you're going to have a rough go. Growth is more expensive than ever and doesn't appear to slow down. Even if you don't need it get your financing capacity in order.

What upcoming project, goal, or opportunity in your business are you most excited about right now?

July in general - we launched two large sealcoating projects with Broken Arrow Schools and the city of Muskogee, as well as launching our Bentonville ISD landscaping contract as well as all of our other business so this has been a month we've been looking forward to for a while now!
